Stokes Snaps at Bumrah Question After Defeat
India bounced back in emphatic fashion in the second Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, defeating England by a massive 336 runs at Edgbaston. The win not only leveled the five-match series 1-1 but also marked India’s biggest-ever Test victory away from home.
Shubman Gill led from the front with twin centuries, while Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj dismantled England’s batting lineup in both innings. With Jasprit Bumrah rested for workload management, India’s pace attack still proved too strong for the hosts.
Stokes Irritated by Bumrah Question
At the post-match press conference, England captain Ben Stokes showed visible irritation when asked about the prospect of facing Bumrah in the upcoming third Test at Lord’s.
“I thought I’d get through a press conference without being asked about Jasprit Bumrah,” Stokes said curtly.
Despite the frustration, he acknowledged the challenge Bumrah presents and explained how England would prepare.
“We play against each other so often, you know what you will be faced with. You try to replicate it in training with coaches and sidearms, but it’s always tough to match what comes at you in a game,” he added.
Bumrah’s Return Adds to England’s Woes
With the series now level and momentum firmly with India, Bumrah’s expected return at Lord’s adds another layer of pressure on England. The Indian pacer was rested at Edgbaston but is set to lead the attack in the third Test starting July 10.
Stokes admitted that England must quickly regroup:
“We have to wipe this one under the carpet as quickly as we can because Lord’s Day One will be coming round pretty quickly,” he said.
