Aakash Chopra Condemns Jealousy Claims After Jaiswal Run-Out
The dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal on 175 during Day 2 of the second Test against West Indies left fans stunned. A miscommunication with Shubman Gill led to a run-out that ended what looked like another memorable double century in the making. Soon after, several social media users accused Gill of being ‘jealous’ and claimed he didn’t support Jaiswal during the run.
The Yashasvi Jaiswal run-out sparked heated reactions online. Many fans compared the incident to past fan wars involving Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, showing how quickly narratives spread on social platforms.
Aakash Chopra Condemns the “Jealousy” Narrative
Former India batter Aakash Chopra didn’t hold back while addressing the controversy. He called out the toxic chatter that emerged after the dismissal.
“Gill ran for Nitish Reddy, but not for Jaiswal. Why? Because he is jealous of Jaiswal – what? Why are you saying such things? You guys did the same thing with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as well. When they won the Champions Trophy, they were playing Dandiya together. There were tears in their eyes when they lifted the T20 World Cup together and hugged each other,” Chopra said in a video on his YouTube channel.
Chopra reminded fans that both players share a good rapport and play as teammates. “Now, we have started the same thing with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill as well. They are friends, they play for the same team. Irrespective of whose fault it was [the run-out], also look at the dressing room video of them having a friendly chat. This happened immediately after that incident. Even when Jaiswal was asked about it, he said such things happen,” the 48-year-old added.
“Stop Fan Wars and Support the Team,” Says Chopra
Chopra urged fans to avoid divisive narratives that harm the spirit of the game. “Honestly, once these fan armies are created, they actually start fighting as if it’s a war. They make it seem like these players are playing against each other, not with each other. Gill and Jaiswal’s journey has just started. Let’s write a different story instead of indulging in fan wars and trolling. Let’s try and take Indian cricket forward.”
The incident may have ended Jaiswal’s innings prematurely, but both he and Shubman Gill were later seen sharing a light moment in the dressing room. Chopra’s strong message is a reminder to focus on Indian cricket’s progress, not personal rivalries invented by fan groups.
