Kohli’s Tweet Sparks Test Comeback Buzz
Virat Kohli may have retired from Test cricket, but his presence continues to loom large over the format. After India’s historic 336-run win over England at Edgbaston, Kohli broke his social media silence with a congratulatory post that has now sparked fresh speculation about a potential return.
“Great victory for India at Edgbaston. Fearless and kept pushing England to the wall. Brilliantly led by Shubman with the bat and in the field, and impactful performances from everyone. Special mention to Siraj and Akash for the way they bowled on this pitch,” Kohli posted on X.
The post, while celebratory, caught the attention of former England cricketer Jonathan Trott, who suggested that Kohli might be missing the thrill of the dressing room.
“He Misses That Dressing Room Feeling”: Trott
Speaking on Sony Sports Network, Trott said:
“Coming back to Virat Kohli’s tweet, no wonder he misses that dressing room feeling. I sometimes wonder how quickly that feeling comes back after you give up the game.”
Trott even floated the idea of Kohli returning to the Test side, saying he wouldn’t mind batting at No. 3 or 5, especially with Shubman Gill locking down the No. 4 spot after his record-breaking performances in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
Will Kohli Reverse His Test Retirement?
Kohli announced his retirement from Test cricket on May 12, 2025, after 123 matches and 9230 runs. While fans continue to hope for a comeback, insiders suggest the decision was final. With a young family and a decorated career—including two World Cups, two Champions Trophies, and an IPL title—Kohli has little left to prove.
Still, his recent tweets—especially after months of silence—have reignited fan hopes. Many believe he could have thrived on England’s flat tracks, with some joking that he “missed 900 runs and three easy centuries.”
Kohli’s ODI Journey Continues
Though his red-ball career may be over, Kohli isn’t done with international cricket. He is expected to return for India’s ODI series in Australia later this year, after a brief break from the game.
